Kaplan University is a for-profit educational institution. The school primarily deals in distance-learning education, but has a campus located in Urbandale, Iowa. In 1937, the American Institute of Commerce was established. Eventually, the school changed its name to Quest College. In November 2000, Kaplan, Inc. acquired Quest College and officially changed the name of the schools to Kaplan University in 2004. The school is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Including all of its locations throughout the United States, the school has about 66,000 students and 3,600 faculty members.

Kaplan University Degree Programs

Kaplan University awards associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees in a variety of educational and vocational programs. Students can complete these programs online or on campus. Here are some of the degrees available at Kaplan:

Kaplan University Iowa Admissions

Kaplan University has an open admissions policy. To be eligible for entry you must be a high school graduate, have a GED, or have an equivalent home study certificate or transcript. In addition to filling out an application and submitting proof of the minimum educational requirement, applicants must attend an informational interview. Students must also be able to speak and understand English and may be subjected to an English proficiency test.

Certain programs may require criminal background checks, health examinations, immunizations, or pathology tests. It is important to contact an academic advisor prior to submitting application to determine if this pertains to the program you want to enter.

Tuition depends on the degree you are pursing. Here is a general idea of what you can expect to pay for an education at Kaplan University:

  • Undergraduate Tuition (veterans): $230 per credit
  • Graduate Tuition: $368 to $441 per credit depending on degree

  • Graduate Tuition (veterans): $370 per credit
  • Graduate Tech fee: $100 per term

Individual programs may assess additional fees for materials and laboratory access.

Students can pay for their education using federal loans, grants and scholarships. You can apply for financial aid using the FAFSA form. The amount you qualify for will depend on your particular financial situation. You can also participate in the work-study program to earn money for tuition and fees. There are also a number of scholarships and grants available from private organizations, and you can find a list of them online.

Campus Life
