Emmaus Bible College

Emmaus Bible College is a Christian school located in Dubuque, Iowa. The primary goal of the school is to teach students the bible with a focus on the principles in the New Testament. However, the school also has educational programs which are taught from a biblical worldview. Emmaus Bible College was founded by R.E. Harlow, John Smart, and C. Ernest Tatham in 1938. The school has a sister college in Australia and a correspondence division that offers distance-learning courses in 125 languages. Approximately 300 students attend Emmaus Bible College.

Emmaus Bible College Degree Programs

The college has ten departments that offer a variety of academic programs that terminate in an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. They also have minor and certificate programs. Here is a listing of the degrees you can earn at Emmaus Bible College:

The school has several continuing education programs to help professionals stay on top of their career credentials.

Full-time students are required to attend a daily chapel which includes singing, prayer, devotionals, and announcements. Students must pass devotional each semester they attend the college in order to graduate. Skipping chapel 10 times or more will result in a fail. Those who fail chapel can complete an additional assignment to change their grade from a fail to a pass.

First-year students are required to participate in the Spiritual Formation program where students talk about ministry, identity, integrity and community in small groups. This program is part of the Christian Service requirement for first-year students.

Participation in Christian Service Learning is another graduation requirement. This is a type of specialized Christian ministry. Students completing a Bachelor of Science degree must complete about 3.5 to 4 credits (about 105 to 120 hours) and those pursuing an Associates of Arts degree must complete 2 credits (60 hours) of service. Transfer students are required to complete .5 credits (15 hours) of Christian Service Learning per semester.

Since the Emmaus is a bible college, students are expected to read the entire bible in one year. Students must finish reading the bible by the first day of finals and will be tested on their knowledge. Lastly, people pursuing a bachelor’s degree must participate in Senior Seminar during the last year of the program.

Admissions

To be considered for admission to Emmaus Bible College, first-year students must graduate from an accredited high school program or equivalent. Students must submit their official transcript showing grades and course load as well as ACT or SAT with minimum scores of 19 (ACT) and 920 (SAT). Transfer students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0. International students are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language and earn a minimum score of 550 (paper), 213 (computer), or 80 (Internet).

In addition to the standard school credentials, students must provide evidence of being a Christian in the form of a written testimony and submit to a physical exam.

Emmaus Bible College Tuition Costs

The costs associated with earning a degree at Emmaus Bible College are as follows:

  • Tuition: $13,750 per year
  • Room and Board: $6,200 per year
  • Fees: $750 per year

Students can use federal student aid and veterans benefits to pay for their education. There are also a number of scholarships available for full-time students.

Campus Life

On campus housing is available. Almost all of the dorms consist of single rooms. There are a few suites that can accommodate two to four people. Each room is furnished with a desk and chair, bed, sink, closet, and storage. Students must share common areas such as showers, toilets, and entertainment areas. As far as athletic programs go, students can participate in soccer, volleyball, basketball, and softball.
