IowaSchools.com started out as IowaSchools.net in April of 1999.  The '.com' version was taken but not being utilized, we're guessing that it was bought with the intention of being resold.  Eventually the original owner let it go and we picked it up.  Currently you can access our site using either address, they both point to the same place. (As a point of interest, you can view how much other 'stateschools.com' sites are being auctioned for at www.mostwanteddomains.com.  They own a few of them, you would be surprised!)

This idea for this site came after a reunion was held in a small farm town in northern Iowa in the late 90's.  Classmates were wondering how we could keep everyone informed and in touch with each other.  A web was perfect for communicating!  The web has come a long way since then!  Other alumni sites are out there, but usually they either pertain to a particular class, school, or the entire United States.  Ours, so far, is the only one we know of that focuses on just the state of Iowa.  Growing up and residing in Iowa lends itself to the idea of what we want to accomplish.

Today, we have not attempted to make any money on the site, but hope that someday it will at least pay for itself.  It's privately held, paid for, and maintained as a 'hobby', so far...  We have regular '9-5' jobs and do this on our free time, we enjoy it!  Hearing from fellow alumni has been fun, along with the learning that comes from maintaining a web site.

In March of 2001, MinnesotaSchools.com was purchased with the hopes of providing the same coverage for our neighbor to the north.  It was let go after being 'sat on' also.  We have relatives in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and one of us was even born there!
