Admissions

Iowa Valley Community College Grinnell has an open-door admissions policy, which means you will be accepted into the college if you have a high school diploma or equivalent. Individual programs, however, may have additional requirements for entry. For example, some programs require students to complete prerequisite courses before they will be accepted.

To assist with placing students in courses that match their knowledge and skills, applicants must submit ACT scores or sit for the Compass test. Students can retake either test if they feel the courses they are assigned do not accurately match their skill level.

Iowa Valley Community College Grinnell Tuition Costs

The college bases their tuition on the student’s residency. Residency is determined by the location of the student’s permanent home and the reason for his or her presence in Iowa. Students who only come to Iowa to go to school will be classified as non-residents.

  • Iowa Resident Tuition: $144 per credit
  • Non-Resident Tuition: $150 per credit
  • Fee for Distance Learning Courses: $13 per credit
  • Technology Fee: $17 per credit
  • Student Fee: $9 per hour

Though IVCC Grinnell has very low tuition rates, there are a number of resources available to students that need assistance paying for their educations. The federal government has a number of loans, grants, and scholarships available and students can apply for those by submitting the FAFSA form. A search online can uncover hundreds of loans and scholarships offered by private individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations.

Campus Life

There is no on-campus housing available at IVCC Grinnell, but there are plenty of places to live in the local area. The Student Activities Council and Senate plan activities for students to participate in throughout the year. The only student organization available at Grinnell is the Phi Theta Kappa, Beta Sigma Chi Chapter. Interested students can, however, join one of the many athletic programs and student organizations at Marshalltown Community College. The programs you will find there include baseball, basketball, volleyball, Youth for Understanding, and Multicultural Club.
